Who we are
This website, northstarter.com, is operated by Northstarter LLC, doing business as Northstarter Consulting ("Northstarter," "we," or "us"), a Minnesota limited liability company located at 5775 Wayzata Blvd., Suite 700, St. Louis Park, MN 55416. This policy explains what information we collect from visitors to this site, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to this website only. Information you share with us during a consulting engagement is governed by the agreement for that engagement.
Information we collect
Information you give us. This site has no forms and no accounts. If you email us, call us, or schedule a conversation through our booking page, we receive whatever you choose to provide, typically your name, email address, phone number, company, and the notes you include. We use it to respond to you and to prepare for and follow up on the conversation you requested.
Information collected automatically. We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used. Google Analytics collects information such as the pages you view, how long you stay, the site that referred you, your approximate location (city or region, derived from your IP address, which Google does not store), and the type of device and browser you use. This information is aggregated and does not identify you by name. We do not use it for advertising.
Cookies
Google Analytics sets a small number of cookies (with names beginning _ga) to distinguish one visitor from another and to recognize a returning browser. We set no other cookies of our own. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings; the site works fully without them. You can also install Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on to prevent Google Analytics from collecting data on any site.
Like most websites, this site does not currently respond to "Do Not Track" browser signals, because there is no common standard for how to interpret them. The opt-out methods above work regardless.
Third-party services
A few outside services help run this site, and each may receive limited information when you use it:
- Google Analytics (Google LLC) collects the usage data described above. Google's practices are described in its privacy policy and in How Google uses information from sites that use its services.
- Google Fonts serves the typefaces on this site. When a page loads, your browser requests the font files from Google's servers, which involves sending your IP address to Google.
- Microsoft Bookings (Microsoft Corporation) powers the "Book a free call" links. Information you enter on the booking page is collected by Microsoft on our behalf and stored in our Microsoft 365 account, under Microsoft's privacy statement.
- Our web host may keep standard server logs, including IP addresses and request times, for security and reliability.
These providers act on our instructions to deliver their service. We do not sell your personal information, share it for targeted advertising, or provide it to anyone else except as needed to respond to you, to comply with law, or to protect our rights.
How long we keep information
Emails and booking records are kept for as long as we have a business reason to keep them, usually the duration of our conversation with you plus a reasonable period afterward, or as long as our legal and tax obligations require. Google Analytics data is retained on Google's servers for 14 months by default, after which it is deleted automatically.
Security
This site is served over HTTPS. Information you send us is stored in commercial services (Microsoft 365, Google) that maintain their own security programs. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable measures appropriate to the small amount of information involved.
Children
This site is for businesses and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your choices and rights
You can use this site without giving us any information. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, or to object to certain uses of it. We extend these choices to everyone, wherever you live: email [email protected] and we will respond within 45 days. We will never treat you differently for exercising these rights.
Visitors outside the United States. This site is operated from the United States and intended for a U.S. audience. Any information you provide will be processed and stored in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your country. By using the site or contacting us, you understand that your information will be handled as described in this policy.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version here and update the effective date at the top. Changes that materially affect how we use information you have already given us will be noted on this page.
